The advice was to wait
A hotel group asked for an urgent dependant application before an employee's family travelled. We raised the fee for urgency, then advised against it, and put the fee back.
Dependent Visa

A hotel group's HR manager asked for an urgent dependant application before an employee's family travelled. The firm raised its fee for the urgency, then advised against it, and put the fee back.
At a glance
- Client: International hotel group, UK cluster
- Matter: Skilled Worker dependant application for the child of a sponsored employee
- Context: Longstanding corporate account management client
- The question: Whether to apply urgently before the family travelled
- Instructed: 23 June 2026
How they found us
An existing corporate client. The work came through our ongoing account relationship.
The challenge
- The family were considering travelling before the dependant application was resolved.
- Travelling before dependant status is obtained creates risk at the UK border, including the risk of being admitted as a visitor, which affects what can be applied for afterwards.
- Biometrics and submission timing had to align with the family's movements.
- The dependant application also had to align with the main applicant's permission, which ran to January 2028.
What we did
- Set out the four risks plainly. Travelling before dependant status is granted, problems at the border, the consequences of visitor admission, and biometrics and submission timing.
- Advised the client to slow down. On that advice the client chose not to proceed urgently and to wait until the family had returned to the UK before submitting.
- Reversed the urgency fee. The fee had been increased for expedited handling; when the urgency no longer applied, it was put back to the original figure.
- Checked the documents were still current. We checked whether the identity and relationship documents we held needed refreshing before submission.
Why it matters
The commercially attractive answer and the correct answer are not always the same. An urgent application at an urgent fee was available here. Advising against it, and unwinding the fee, is what a corporate client is actually paying for on a retained relationship.
