Nine years of hospitality in Lagos, rebuilt as a British business case
A Nigerian hotel owner wanted to bring her business and family to Britain. The route needed proof she was expanding a business that already worked, not starting a new one.

A Nigerian hotel owner wanted to bring her business to Britain and move her family with it. The route required her to prove she was expanding something that already worked, not starting something new.
At a glance
- Client: Owner of a Nigerian hotel trading around nine years, plus other businesses
- Matter: Expansion Worker route, with a later transition to self-sponsorship in view
- UK entity: Incorporated 26 May 2026
- The obstacle: Multiple overseas businesses, only one of which could be the qualifying entity
- Instructed: 18 June 2026
How they found us
She contacted us through our website on 12 April 2026 and instructed us 67 days later. A long decision is normal when a whole family is moving with the business.
The challenge
- She owned several Nigerian businesses, so the qualifying overseas trading entity had to be selected and evidenced deliberately.
- A family of six was relocating with the business.
- The UK proposition had to read as the expansion of a proven operation rather than a start-up, which is the test the route actually applies.
- She intended to move to self-sponsorship once established, so the structure had to support a later switch rather than just clear the first hurdle.
What we did
- Chose the qualifying entity and built around it. The hotel, with nine years of trading history, rather than the wider group.
- Gave the UK business a specific proposition. A boutique hospitality concept with African-inspired interiors, authentic cuisine and a garden-to-table approach using African ingredients, aimed at the diaspora and the wider UK market, framed throughout as an extension of the proven Lagos operation.
- Evidenced the funding. Expansion funds available and documented, so the plan was backed rather than asserted.
- Structured for the second phase. The instruction was built so the later move to self-sponsorship would not require unpicking the first stage.
Why it matters
The Expansion Worker route asks a question that sounds commercial but is really evidential: is this a real business doing a real thing somewhere else? A distinctive, specific UK proposition is easier to believe than a generic one, and easier to evidence.
