Two routes, one career, and a recommendation the firm refused to rush
An AI researcher fitted two Global Talent routes with different endorsing bodies. Picking the wrong one would cost her the endorsement, so we reviewed the evidence first.

An AI researcher wanted to move to Britain and had a genuine choice to make between two Global Talent routes. Picking the wrong one would have cost her the endorsement. The firm declined to commit until it had seen the evidence.
At a glance
- Client: Russian national, AI and machine learning research and industry background
- Evidence: First-author publications at a leading machine learning conference, research roles, leadership experience, multiple AI awards
- The question: Digital technology route or academic and research route
- Timing: Endorsement submission targeted for September 2026, relocation January 2027
- Instructed: 3 August 2026, 13 days after first contact
How they found us
She found our Global Talent application guidance page and contacted us through it on 21 July 2026. She instructed us 13 days later.
The challenge
- Her profile genuinely fitted two different routes with different endorsing bodies and different evidence tests.
- The academic and research route would require a suitable UK-based referee, which she might not have.
- She had a fixed relocation target and wanted the endorsement submitted by mid-September, October at the latest.
- She was applying from abroad, so document gathering and identity checks had to work across borders.
What we did
- Framed the choice rather than guessing at it. Our advice set out that an industry and technical leadership direction points to the digital technology route, while a research-focused career with a UK-based senior referee could support the academic route.
- Deferred the recommendation on purpose. The final route call was held back until a detailed evidence review at the introductory call, rather than committed at enquiry stage.
- Put a re-application commitment in writing. Endorsement review or re-application included within the endorsement fee at no further professional cost if refused, written into the client care letter at her request.
- Accommodated cross-border practicalities. The deposit was taken across several payment links because of her banking limits, and identity checks were completed before work began.
Why it matters
On Global Talent the route decision is made once and cannot easily be unwound. Two endorsing bodies, two evidence tests, and an applicant whose career reads plausibly for either. Committing early looks decisive and is the most expensive mistake available.
