Global Business Mobility

Get Global Business Mobility Visa Approved & Expand to UK

Why AY&J

Why Are AY&J Your Ideal Global Business Mobility Solicitors?

Moving people across borders is stressful enough without the added confusion around visa types. Global Business Mobility (GBM) is a framework of five sponsored routes for employers. Each one moves existing overseas staff into a linked UK business on a strictly temporary basis.
  • First, we will work out which of the five sponsored routes actually fits the person you are moving.
  • Then we will handle the sponsor licence and the compliance record, as your global business mobility solicitors.
You will need a UK entity that can hold a sponsor licence before anyone applies. As your global business mobility solicitors, we will tell you exactly where yours stands before you commit. However, none of the five routes leads directly to settlement in the UK.

Refusal Risks

How does AY&J clear each risk?

Common refusal risk

How we handle it

  • We check the code against the going rate before sponsorship is assigned
  • We model the salary against both the threshold and the occupation going rate
  • We assemble the ownership and control evidence that the Home Office expects
  • We audit your HR processes and close the gaps before submission
  • We build the employment record, or confirm whether the £73,900 waiver applies

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions?
Contact us

Choosing a route

Which Global Business Mobility route should we use?

It depends on why the person is coming to the UK. Senior or Specialist Worker covers intra-company transfers, while UK Expansion Worker covers the setup of a new UK branch. We confirm the fit before you spend anything.

Choosing a route

Can we use Global Business Mobility to hire someone new?

No. These routes only move existing employees from your overseas business into a linked UK entity. A brand-new external hire will usually need the Skilled Worker route and a separate sponsor licence.

Choosing a route

Does the employee need twelve months with our overseas business?

Usually yes, for Senior or Specialist Worker. The requirement drops to just three months for Graduate Trainee, and it is waived entirely where the salary reaches £73,900. That waiver also extends the maximum stay considerably.

Choosing a route

Can our UK business sponsor without a trading history?

Yes, through UK Expansion Worker. That route exists for businesses with no UK trading history, and it lets you send staff to establish the branch. You will still need a sponsor licence for it first.

Choosing a route

Do any of these routes lead to settlement?

No. Time on a GBM visa does not count towards indefinite leave to remain. Most people switch across to the Skilled Worker route when UK settlement becomes their long term goal.

Costs and timing

How much does a Global Business Mobility visa cost?

The visa fee is £340 for four of the five routes. Senior or Specialist Worker runs from £819 to £1,865, by length and location. The health surcharge is charged on top at £1,035 a year.

Sponsor licence and duties

Who pays the sponsor licence fee?

Your business does. Since 2024, sponsors have been unable to pass the licence fee on to a sponsored worker. The same applies to the Certificate of Sponsorship fee and the Immigration Skills Charge.

Costs and timing

How long does the whole process take?

You will want to allow eight weeks for the sponsor licence. A visa decision then takes three weeks from outside the UK, or eight weeks inside. Priority services can shorten the visa stage to five days.

Costs and timing

Can we speed up a decision?

Yes. Priority costs £500 and targets delivery within five working days, while super priority costs £1,000 and targets delivery the next working day. Availability varies by visa application centre and is never guaranteed anywhere.

Costs and timing

Does the Immigration Skills Charge apply to every route?

No, it applies only to the Senior or Specialist Worker route. Graduate Trainee, UK Expansion Worker, Service Supplier, and Secondment Worker are all exempt from it. That exemption saves a sponsor several thousand pounds.

Sponsor licence and duties

Do we need a sponsor licence for every route?

Yes, in every single case. The UK entity must hold a valid licence for the specific route before any sponsorship is assigned. An existing Skilled Worker licence does not automatically cover these routes.

Sponsor licence and duties

What happens during a Home Office compliance visit?

An officer checks whether your HR systems match what you told the Home Office. You will need right-to-work records, contracts, and reporting evidence available on the day. We would suggest rehearsing it.

Choosing a route

Can we sponsor more than one person on UK Expansion Worker?

Yes, you can sponsor up to five workers on that particular route. That is a significant change from the old sole representative visa. It allowed only one person to establish the UK branch.

Sponsor licence and duties

What are the ongoing duties after the visa is granted?

You will need to keep records, report changes and monitor the sponsored worker throughout the whole assignment. Those duties run for as long as you continue to hold the licence. A lapse can put the licence itself at risk.

Choosing a route

What is the first thing we should do?

You will want to check whether your UK entity already holds the right sponsor licence. We will review that position and tell you which route is open to you. That takes one conversation.
