You may not need a sponsor to work in the UK

For most people, working in Britain means finding an employer to sponsor them, with your permission to work then tied to that job. But talented individuals have another way to work in the UK without a sponsor, and too few people know it exists.

What is the Global Talent visa?

The Global Talent visa lets you work in the UK without a sponsor, no job offer, and no minimum salary. Instead of sponsorship, it asks whether you can show real achievement, or clear potential, in your field. Eligible fields include academia and research, digital technology, and arts and culture, with a design pathway added in July 2026.

How hard is it to get?

More than 99 per cent of decisions on main applicants ended in a grant in early 2026, according to Home Office figures. The decision itself is rarely the hard part. The real work is the endorsement stage, where it is often the evidence, rather than the raw talent, that decides the outcome.

Who might qualify?

If your work is already being recognised beyond your workplace, whether you are published, awarded, exhibited, or building something others in your field have noticed, this route may be open to you. Depending on how you are endorsed, it can lead to settlement in as little as three years, on a future that depends on no employer.

We help individuals work out whether this route is genuinely open to them, and how to build the evidence that makes the difference.

Our CEO, Yash Dubal, set out what this means for talented individuals in Eastern Eye. For details, read the full article here: You may not need a sponsor to work in Britain.
